Which transportation option you choose will depend on your budget and your preferences. If you are on a tight budget, then bus is the best option. If you are looking for a more comfortable journey, then train or taxi is the best option.

There are three main transportation options for getting to Batticaloa from Colombo or other major cities in Sri Lanka:
- Bus: Buses are the most affordable way to travel to Batticaloa, but they can also be the most time-consuming, as the journey takes around 8-9 hours. There are a number of bus companies that operate buses to Batticaloa from Colombo and other major cities.
- Train: Trains are a more comfortable and scenic way to travel to Batticaloa, but they can also be more expensive than buses. The train journey from Colombo to Batticaloa takes around 7-8 hours. There are a number of train classes available, ranging from third class (which is the most affordable but also the least comfortable) to first class (which is the most expensive but also the most comfortable).
- Taxi: Taxis are the most convenient way to travel to Batticaloa, but they are also the most expensive. The taxi journey from Colombo to Batticaloa takes around 6-7 hours. You can book a taxi in advance from your hotel or guesthouse, or you can hail one on the street.
In addition to these three main transportation options, there are also a number of other ways to get to Batticaloa, such as renting a car or hiring a van and driver.
